Joseph Getz

Founder and Owner | Director | Instructor

Joseph Getz has established himself as a multi-genre percussionist and music instructor experienced in performance and interactive music education. His passion for music started at an early age in elementary school band programs and continued to the college level earning his Bachelor's Degree in Instrumental Performance at The University of the Arts. Upon graduation at UArts, he received the Drumset Award for the senior class, the highest award given by the drum department.

While residing in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, he was a performing and recording artist for Mercury Radio Theater, Cape Wrath, Six Acre Lake, the Byways, Geology, Johnny Showcase, and F. Woods, which he has built up a sizable discography. He also served as a percussionist for PhillyBloco, Philadelphia's only 23-piece Brazilian funk orchestra. Joseph has extensive performing experience in many of Philadelphia’s highly regarded venues. In addition to recording, touring, and performing with various groups, Joseph has served as a church musician for over twenty years. He also served as the pit drummer for several musical theater productions.

For ten years, he was on faculty at the Conservatory of Music at Perkins Center for the Arts in New Jersey, where he taught private lessons and after-school ensemble programs in schools. He is also a member of the Percussive Arts Society. Joseph is the founder of Getz Arts LLC, which provides private one-on-one music lessons and group percussion, and art instruction for after-school enrichment programs, micro-schools and homeschool groups serving Palm Beach and Broward Counties.

 

Karen Destefano

Karen DeStefano is a Philadelphia native who attended Rosemont College and received her Bachelor of Fine Arts with a certificate in Art Therapy. Throughout the years, Karen has worked in various mediums and continues to explore the use of diverse materials. Karen has worked in early childhood art education, where she created curriculum teaching in a play-based preschool center in an underserved urban setting. She has also worked with elementary-aged children where she was one-on-one in special education. She enjoys teaching young artists because of their enthusiasm and willingness to experiment with new ideas. While recently relocating to West Palm Beach with her family, Karen has enjoyed the South Florida landscape that has inspired her recent artistic direction. Karen's additional passions are cooking and traveling to explore other cultures.
